These Sneakers Remind Us Everyone Has A Story To Tell

If you look closely, you will realise everyone has a story to tell. Even those things on your feet made of leather, canvas, rubber and a couple of other things. Here are 3 shoes that not only cost $1000s of dollars today but also tell a story in their own ways.
Tom Sachs x Nike Craft Mars Yard 2.0
Nike and Tom Sachs collaborated in 2017 to present the second version of the Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard. The first version of the shoe was one of the most anticipated items. Not only was it the first collab between Nike and Tom Sachs but it was also designed by Tommaso Rivellini, one of NASA’s mechanical engineers as a part of the SPACE PROGRAM: Mars exhibit, a built-space that stimulated Mars landing. What makes the version 2.0 so special is the vision Sachs had behind the shoe.
The Mars Yard 2.0 which is valued around a whopping $7,000 currently, is made of everyday materials mainly employed in their natural state, meaning no dyes were used. The natural polyurethane midsole looks rather worn out which gives the shoe a more natural edge. “People wear their scars with pride, so that's another reason why we don't polish the materials away — it’s storytelling. Rock your shoes dirty to say, 'I wear my shoes. I do things with my life. Behold the evidence of my actions.'” Seems like Tom Sachs believed in wearing out his shoes so bad, he went ahead and made one that looks 5 years old already. We love to see it!
Nike Air Yeezy 2 "Red October"
Here’s why the Red Octobers matter way more than the other Yeezy 2s. It’s what led to perhaps one of the biggest breakups in sneaker history- the parting of Nike and Kanye West. Since these were the last West x Nike shoes the world was gonna see, the resale value of these went through the roof for obvious reasons. The artist went on a few rather public rants against Nike, going as far as accusing the then Nike CEO Mark Parker of “letting go of culture” by making the sneakers available in limited quantities against West’s wishes. The fact that the rapper did not receive enough royalties also didn’t help the situation. However, this controversy also meant that it was time for Ye to join Adidas, a risky decision at the time. But looks like things worked out for Kanye after all because it gave us the Adidas Yeezys, a shoe empire so big, it made Ye a billionaire.
Adding on a few other random incidents associated with the sneaker like Macklemore throwing a pair into the crowd during his new year’s eve performance and a fan bringing a fake pair to be signed by Kanye, which Kanye did not hesitant to point out at all, makes the sneaker way more valuable than your regular collabs. (Side note- Kanye if you’re reading this, can we please get DONDA now?)
