The 5 Most Expensive Sneakers Ever Sold

There is a huge population that considers sneakers as “collectible” just like comic books or works  of art. Sneakers are considered valuable when they are from a limited edition collection or a part of  some special collaboration. However, the rarest of the rare are those sneakers which are attached to  some important sporting moments like game-worn basketball shoes. Lets have a look at the 6 most  expensive pairs ever sold which include sneakers from the silver screen and some which graced the  feet of the most talented athletes we’ve ever known - 

1. Nike 1972 Waffle Racing Flat "Moon Shoe” -  

This pair was purchased by the Canadian collector Miles Nadal and is the most expensive on our  list today. Only 12 “Moon Shoe” pairs were ever made and these are apparently the only unworn  pair. Prior to the sale, the shoe was predicted to be sold between $110,000 and $160,000.  Sold Via - Private auction ; Sale Price - $437,500  

2. Michael Jordan!s Game-Worn Converse Fastbreaks - 

Before Michael Jordan launched his own footwear brand, the Jumpman regularly rocked the high top Converse Fastbreaks while playing for University of North Carolina before joining the NBA.  This special silhouette was worn during the 1984 Olympics for a gold-medal-winning match against  Spain. These shoes were sold in 2017 and came complete with the star’s autograph on the upper in serts inside. During the auction, Converse was also interested in getting the shoe until they became  too costly.

3. "Flu-Game" Game-Worn Jordan 12 - 

Michael Jordan was struck by flu-like symptoms during game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals, in what  eventually came to be known as the “flu-game.” Despite that, Jordan went onto score 38 points and  win the game for Chicago Bulls. This pair worn by the Jumpman during the epic match were sold  by former ball boy Preston Truman back in 2013 along with the game-worn socks.

4. 2016 Self-Lacing Nike MAG - 

Although Marty McFly!s original Nike Air Mags were not self-lacing, on October 2016, Nike went onto release 89 pairs of fully-functional Air Mags via a charity raffle. All the proceeds ($6.75 mil lion) from the charity went towards the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson!s research. Just two months after the sneakers were released, a pair sold via an auction house in Hong Kong for  $104,000.

5. Stephen Curry Game-Worn Under Armour 6 "Moon Landing” - 

The NBA star, Stephen Curry appeared on the court wearing a customised pair of Under Armour 6.  The sneaker tried to depict the moon’s surface and were reminiscent of a certain Nike Air Max re-

lease. Curry later listed the signed pair on Ebay, and said that all the proceeds were going towards  scientific education initiatives.
